What are exfoliators?

Exfoliators help scrub away the excess dirt, oils and impurities on the surface of the skin.

Why should I use an exfoliator?

Exfoliators are essential for helping regulate our cell turnover. The skin should naturally turn over every 28 days, but elements like age and acne can slow this process down. Using an exfoliator will assist the skin in normalising and keeping it clear and glowing.

What’s in an exfoliator?

Exfoliators can have lots of different ingredients all designed to get rid of excess dirt, oils and impurities. There are manual exfoliants that will have physical beads from crushed walnut to rice powder to buff the skin’s surface.

There are also chemical exfoliants which are Alpha Hydroxy Acid (often from fruit) or an enzyme (also from fruits and vegetables) which gently digest unwanted dead skin cells and clear away impurities. At Belinda Hughes, we strive to find the best products that only contain the best natural plant-based ingredients.

How often should I use an exfoliator?

You don’t want to overdo it! As an average, once a week a sufficient, however, those with more sensitive skin can do it once a fortnight. Those with highly oily, congested skins could exfoliate a couple of times a week but be sure to follow the product directions carefully.
